The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)

CACFP is a federal program that is administered through the New York State Department of Health, Department of Nutrition , and  available through the Child Care & Development Council.  CACFP reimburses providers for nutritious snacks and meals that they serve to children in their care.  In order to receive reimbursement, the snacks and meals must meet USDA guidelines.  All registered, licensed, and legally exempt providers are eligible to particpate in the program.

*****IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ*****
There will be a remporary delay in payments beginning March 26, 2015 while NYS transitions to the new state fiscal year.  This means the March CACFP payments (checks that are typically mailed in mid April) will be delayed.  March CACFP paperwork which includes: ATTENDANCE AND MEAL COUNTS & CHILDREN'S AND INFANT MENUS should be mailed in to the Child Care & Development Council of Oswego County by April 5th as customary.  Your CACFP paperwork will be processed and ready for submission at the end of the State Financial System blackout period.  We anticipate NYS will release funds in late April or early May 2015.  Thank you for your patience and hopefully this information will help you prepare for the delay in receipt of your CACFP check.

KRAFT FOODS HAS RECALLED KRAFT MACARONI & CHEESE BOXED DINNERS DUE TO POSSIBLE METAL PIECES.

Now would be an excellent time to convert to a homemade (HM) version of Mac & Cheese!!!  Many of you are using this recipe or one of your own instead of boxed.  HM mac & cheese can be credited for 2 components in CACFP - meat alternate and bread alternate.  Boxed mac & cheese can be credited for bread alternate only.  Give this simple recipe  a try! (Recipe located on left side of page)

National CACFP Week is March 15-21, 2015

National CACFP Week is here again!  We are excited to promote the importance of The Child and Adult Care  Food Program (CACFP).  The CACFP is a partnership between parents, children, providers, and the Child Care & Development Council of Oswego County.

The following are a few reasons we are happy that you, as daycare providers are participating in the CACFP:

  • Children cared for by providers participating in the CACFP benefit by being fed nutritious USDA regulated meals that ensure their proper development.

  • These children gain from early nutrition education that helps them establish positive eating habits that will enrich the quality of their diet throughout their lives.

  • Parents of children in childcare are assured that their child(ren) receives high quality meals.

  • With proper nutrition, the child is less likely to experience illness and fatigue and will develop at a normal physical and intellectual pace.

  • Good nutrition is the recipe for an all-around happier child!

Click on the documents to the left for National CACFP Week Nutrition Awareness materials and a Parent Newsletter that you can print to distribute to your participants parents.  If needed, call Linda Reynolds at 315-343-2344 x24 and she will send you the copies needed for you to distribute to parents.
